While an individual Guardsmen will not find himself a match for an Ork warrior, Kroot mercenary, or Chaos Space Marine, they prevail in battle through drowning the enemy in torrential amounts of las-fire and tank shells. While the individual men and women that form their infantry ranks are highly skilled compared to the Planetary Defense Forces they are typically drawn from, they find themselves being matched against all the horrorific demons and monstrous aliens the galaxy has to throw at them, and are best known for their slegehammer tactics, attacking the enemy with overwhelming numerical superiority and as much heavy support as they can haul along.
If the situation demands, they will not hesitate to add Imperial Navy strike fighters to their armored arsenal. The Imperial Guard are the primary interplanetary defense force and offensive military organization of the Imperium of Mankind, consisting of untold billions of Imperial Guardsmen, light vehicles such as the Chimera transport and Sentinel scout walker, heavy tanks ranging from the potent Leman Russ main battle tank to the hulking monstrosity that is the Baneblade, as well as a number of elite, specialist units such as Kasrkin commando units, Ogryn shock troops, and even deadly Vindicare assassins from the Officio Assasinorum.
